How much does a children’s storybook photoshoot cost?
Let’s Talk Numbers First
I’m not going to bury the answer at the bottom. You came here for a number, so here it is.
Our session fee is $200.
That covers everything: our handcrafted Enchanted Forest set, your child’s choice from the knight’s wardrobe or fairy attire, cinematic props, a guided storybook experience led by our trained photographers (real direction, not “say cheese”), and one complimentary 8×10 Limited Edition portrait.
After that? You decide what to keep at the reveal.
The short version: $200 session fee. One free 8×10 included. Everything beyond that is completely your call.
Every family is different. Some take home just their complimentary portrait and feel great about it. Most families fall in love with additional pieces once they see the images. There’s no pressure either way. You’ll see everything at your portrait reveal and decide what feels right for your family.
So What Does the $200 Actually Get You?
I get asked this a lot, because “session fee” can mean different things depending on where you go. Let me break it down for you:
- Access to our Enchanted Forest set (one professionally lit room with handcrafted trees, stumps, and mushrooms)
- Your child’s choice of knight’s wardrobe, or fairy dress
- Accessories such as fairy wings, flower crowns or tiara
- Cinematic props: swords & shield, glowing orbs, lighted lanterns
- A guided storybook experience led by our trained photographers (real direction, not “say cheese”)
- One complimentary Limited Edition 8×10 portrait per family
That free 8×10 portrait? It applies when you’ve book any session! Limit one per family, once every 365 days.
Sessions are available by request. Visit our booking page to check availability and reserve your child’s experience.
What Comes After Your Session
After your session, you’ll see your child’s portraits and choose what to take home. Many families start with their complimentary 8×10 and fall in love with additional pieces once they see the images. Portraits come in a range of sizes, from desk-friendly 8x10s all the way up to statement pieces for above the fireplace. Every print is created with archival materials and museum-quality inks, and comes with a lifetime warranty. Your portrait consultant will walk you through all the options and pricing during your portrait reveal so you can make the best choice for your family.
We also offer digital files, our signature personalized Storybook, and for families looking for something truly one of a kind, hand-painted portraits by master artist Dan Gutier. Ask your portrait consultant about these options during your portrait reveal, or visit our fine art products page to see the full collection.
What to Expect on Session Day
The best ages for this? Four to twelve.
At four, kids can follow simple prompts. “Hold the orb like it’s glowing.” “Look toward the light like it’s telling you a secret.” By twelve, they often commit so fully you’d think they’ve done this before. They haven’t. They’re just ready.
Here’s how the day goes:
- Wardrobe selection. Your child picks their look: Knight’s Wardrobe (sword, shield, bow & arrow) or fairy attire (wings, flower crown, flowing gown). Some kids know immediately. Others need to see both first.
- The session. About 30 minutes on set. We guide them through their storybook experience, not poses. You’ll watch them settle in. The fidgeting stops. Their eyes focus.
- The reveal. Right after, we sit together and look at the images. This is when you choose what to purchase beyond your included 8×10.
When kids see their portraits for the first time, they get quiet. They study it. You can see them processing something they can’t quite put into words yet. It’s one of those moments that parents tell us about for months afterward.
Quick tip from us: When you’re talking to your kid about it beforehand, skip the word “photoshoot.” Just tell them they get to be a brave knight or a beautiful fairy. You’ll be amazed at the difference that makes when they walk through the door.
